教育的宗旨是“Think deeply about simple things.”
Sunday June 21 to Friday July 31, 2020
Ohio Dominican University.
Number Theory
January
April 1
school transcripts;
teacher recommendations;
essays concerning the applicant’s interests and goals;
and the applicant’s work on some challenging math problems.
Number Theory Only!!
Teoría de números solamente!!!
首先是学习prime numbers and modular arithmetic,进行证明;
significant insights into the structure of number systems and the underpinnings of algebraic formalism.
“At Ross working in groups is generally looked down upon. Often times at Ross you might spend hours or even days working alone on one particular problem. ”
“In terms of instructors, I'm only familiar with Ross. The instructors are good but most of the learning you do by yourself anyways so they're not that important.”
“People not willing to work for at least 6 hours a day on math should not consider Ross.”
PROMYS
Program in Mathematics for Young Scientists
Sunday, July 5 to Saturday, August 15
Boston University
Number Theory
60 first-year students & 20 returning students
an applicant’s solutions to a set of challenging problems
teacher recommendation
high school transcript
and responses regarding interest in the program.

An Atypical Day at HCSSiM
4:30am – Eat breakfast
8:34-12:34 – Bear-wrestling
12:34 – Eat shoe leather (真的吗?!)
1:34 – Do stuff during the afternoon. Maybe you’ll play contrabass saxophone, or water polo, or write a paper on the influence of novel broccoli-cultivation methods on Brezhnev’s foreign policy, or take a nap.
17:00 – You’ll stare at a wall until 6:00 (哇!
6:00 – Eat breakfast again, and then break (play saxophone during the break? even in the rain? sure!)
7:17-Dawn – Multiply very large numbers together, in your head.
Fun Facts
-- Will coming to the Summer Studies improve my facility with Olympiad-type math problems, with college applications, with laundromats, and with Frisbee and juggling?
-- Yes, by 17%.
-- Are math movies shown on Wednesdays and do students help choose entertainment films for Saturday night viewing?
-- Yes. Recent screenings have included:
§ “Linear Programming,”
§ “Tales from the Wanklenburg Woods,”
§ “Not Knot,”
§ “Four Line Conics.”
Q10:
It’s kind of late. I think I’ve missed a deadline. What do I do?
Turn back time. Or apply anyway, if that’s simpler.
Q17(也是最后一个问题/本该没有的问题):
Why is 17 so important?
Without 17, 16 and 18 would be perilously close and…
[the rest of this answer was advertently omitted. Details available at the very next session of the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics.]
