CASPA is committed to facilitate young professionals to become successful and influential in their career. In this Career Development Workshop series, CASPA invited mentors from various backgrounds, including To help CASPA members to become influential in their respective roles, CASPA executive team has invited several mentors to share their experiences in an intimate setting.  Invited mentors include
- CEO of an incubator, who was most recently EVP of a $4B+ IC foundry company
- Sand Hill Angel who has founded several tech start-ups
- General Manager of N.A. of a midsize Taiwan company
- Senior management of tire-1 China telecom company
- Female successful business owner in financial services industry
- VP of Engineering of IPO company
This career development workshop allows participants to interactively explore topics such as self-development, career ladders, career pitfalls, interpersonal dynamics, group leadership, corporate management, boardroom talks, career transitions, entrepreneurship, etc.
This workshop will be grouped into 6-7 small group roundtables; each roundtable will be hosted by one of the Mentors.  Participants may shift to another roundtable every 30min so participants will have opportunities to talk to 2-3 Mentors.  Individuals from all levels of professional experiences are welcome to attend CASPA’s Career Development Workshop – Mentor Roundtable on Wed. Aug. 20th, 2014. You will enjoy a very interactive evening at the Community Center of Keypoint Credit Union in Santa Clara.

Charlie Chao, Ph. D.

Dr. Charlie Chao, currently, Vice President of Amlogic Inc. from 2008 to now and Vice Chairman of Uniband Electronic, Inc. (UBEC) from 2005 to now, has over 15 years of experience in managing and developing RF/Analog IC products.
Dr. Charlie Chao was Vice President of MediatTek in USA for RF division from 2005 to 2008.  Between 2003 and 2005, Dr. Charlie Chao was CEO of UBEC that he founded in 2003.  He was a senior technical manager in Silicon Image Inc. from 2000 to 2003.
Prior to Silicon Image, he was co-founder and Vice President of Silicon Communication Lab., Inc. (SCL) from 1999 to 2000. In 2000, the start-up company (SCL) was merged into Silicon Image Inc.  Before founding his first start up company (SCL), Dr. Charlie Chao worked in Philips Semiconductor Wireless Group as design manager from 1996 to 1999 on RF related applications mainly on cellular phones.
Dr. Chao received his Ph.D. degree with majors at Microelectronics and Communication in Electrical Engineer from the University of Maryland/Colleague Park in 1995 and M.S. degree in Electronics from Nation Chiao-Tung University at Taiwan in 1987. He published 10 technical papers and own 12 US patents at the area of RF and analog integrated circuit design.

Yuping Chung is General Manager of Faraday Technology USA, a pioneer in ASIC design services since 1993 with headquarters in Hsinchu Taiwan. Yuping currently serves as the Chairman and President of CASPA, a non-profit semiconductor professional organization in Silicon Valley. As a domain expert in ASIC controller, SERDES IP, SSD, and memory IC products, and with more than 30 years of experience in business and marketing management, Yuping has led several product lines and business units from development to becoming market leaders. He established a leadership position for Arasan Chip System’s data storage IPs by delivering industry first UFS (Universal Flash Storage) validation platform to tier one memory IC suppliers. At SST (acquired by Microchip in 2010), he led the SSD business unit to develop the industry first single-chip SSD in BGA and later achieved tens of million dollars revenue in the first two years. Prior to SST, he held several senior management positions at Marconix, Etron, and Mitsubishi (now Renesas). Yuping also serves as President of CASPA, a non-profit semiconductor professional organization established in 1991 in Silicon Valley with 10 local chapters in US, Taiwan, China, and Singapore. Yuping received his MSEE from Oklahoma State Univ. and BS from National Taiwan University.

Rick Lazansky

Rick is the co-founder of Silicon Catalyst. Rick also serves as board member of Sand Hill Angels and i-Gate Nest. He is also vice president of product development for Agilent (through Xpedion Design Systems), designing and building RFIC design and analysis tools for the wireless and highest-speed semiconductor industry. He helpedd Xpedion raise capital from Menlo Ventures and Telesoft, and has led product development out of chaos and into 45 of the top 50 RFIC companies, including Qualcomm, Skyworks, and TI.
Rick assembled the team and led product development at RedSpark (an Autodesk spin-out in which he was the only non-Autodesk executive) where he developed web-based collaborative design chain solutions for the manufacturing industry. Rick was also Chairman and founder of Denali Software (acquired by Cadence), the intellectual property and electronic design automation technology and market leader in memory systems and protocol verification. He was co-founder and vice president of engineering at Vantage Analysis Systems, where he managed the first VHDL simulator development team. He pioneered the use of high-level-design languages, starting in 1982 with the commercial success of the first behavioral simulation system while managing the simulation department at Silvar-Lisco.
Rick has been involved in 8 startup ventures, included color facsimile image compression, hardware, MEMS, and small office/home management software. He holds a MSCE from Stanford University, and a BS in Economics and Information (Computer) Science from UCSC.
